Coastal Writing Retreats Offered at the Sunset Inn
The Sunset Inn is now hosting retreats to offer new and established writers inspiration in a peaceful coastal setting. These two separate weekend retreats will be led by award-winning writer and teacher Maureen Ryan Griffin—one Friday, February 17 through Sunday, February19, 2012, and the other Friday, February 24through Sunday, February 26,2012.
“Maureen's ability to help writers birth what they are carrying inside is extraordinary. She is knowledgeable, yet accessible, professional, yet nurturing and safe. She is a true gem. I am already looking forward to my next opportunity to learn from her,” said writer Sarah Henderson about the retreat’s facilitator, whose focus is to give each participant the tools and information needed to move forward with his or her writing dreams and goals.
Between group writing sessions in the sunny breakfast room, attendees will enjoy the privacy of well-appointed rooms, each with a king-sized bed, bath, wet bar, refrigerator, free Wi-Fi, cable TV, and private screen porch with rocking chairs overlooking a beautiful saltwater marsh and the Intracoastal Waterway. The ocean, with spectacular sunrise and sunset views, is a five-minute walk away, and the Inn’s open porches with rocking chairs, Adirondack chairs, and a swing are also available for reflection or conversation with other writers.
The knowledge and ideas provided can be used to create nonfiction, fiction, and/or poetry while at the retreat and afterward. “I have come home with a renewed determination to make writing an even bigger part of my daily life,” said Sharon Moore, a past participant. Stays at the Sunset Inn include an expanded continental breakfast, served from 8:15 to 10:00 a.m. each day. The Inn is primarily for adults but children over 12 are welcome with prior approval. The Sunset Inn is on the island of Sunset Beach, North Carolina, located between Wilmington and Myrtle Beach. Development in the area is limited and the natural beach, one of the widest on the east coast, is unspoiled and uncrowded.
The Sunset Inn is a recipient of a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence and a member of North Carolina Bed and Breakfasts and Inns, an organization working to provide a quality lodging experience for its guests throughout North Carolina. To find out more, please visit www.thesunsetinn.net.
