The Great 31st Annual NC Oyster Festival

The 31st Annual NC Oyster Festival will be at Ocean Isle Beach on October 15-16, 2011, on Sat. 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Sun. 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. It will feature live entertainment, arts and crafts vendors, festival food, a road race, kid's area, North Carolina Oyster Shucking Championships and an Oyster Stew Cook-off. The entertainment line-up includes some great bands performing each day of the festival. Headliner Josh Kelley will be performing Saturday the 15th at 4 p.m. Come join us and find out for yourself why the oyster is so treasured by Brunswick County Natives. Price Range: $5.00 / Children 8 and under are admitted free.

The last full weekend in October – the 29th and 30th — the Holden Beach Merchants Association hosts the very popular “North Carolina Festival by the Sea.” This 2 day event is kicked off with a parade down the Holden Beach causeway. This is the only day of the year that you can walk across the Holden Beach bridge and each year several hundred take that high altitude stroll to stake out the perfect spot to view the parade.

Arts and Crafts vendors are open from 9:00 am to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. You’ll want to plan to be onsite for at least a couple of meals and a snack or two, just to sample a tiny portion of the food on hand.

For the competitive sort, there is a horsehoe tournament and a sandcastle building contest. Children enjoy face painting, huge kites flying overhead and the rides and amusements. There is live musical entertainment both days at Holden Beach’s new Pavilion. The North Carolina Festival by the Sea is a free event with plenty of free parking.
